Trained at the Tasmanian School of Art, Susie McMahon has been a maker for as long as she can remember – as a child she made stuff from whatever she could lay her hands on and mostly the things made were small human representations – dolls. Her work over the years has taken distinct paths; ranging from the purely sculptural to that which is distinctly doll-like, extending to include art-work which can only be described as a fusion of these two forms, being neither one nor the other, but incorporating both.
Susie’s work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibition in Australia and overseas. She received several awards for her work, including the Bricolage Design Award (2005), Peppermint Bay Sculpture Prize (2004), and William Wiley Award (2000). Her distinctive artwork has also featured on an Australia Post stamp issue.
