Dorothy Tucker now works on a freelance basis from her home in South West London. Weather permitting, she likes to be out-of-doors working directly from what she sees and feels. Some of these drawings and paintings lead into her contemporary textile pieces.
Born in India, Dorothy’s choice to stitch by hand is informed by her research into kantha, a form of embroidered quilt from Bangladesh. This interest features in her own work and the courses she offers to a wide variety of groups in the U.K and abroad.
She exhibits her work regularly with PRISM and the Textile Study Group. Her work is included in DIS/rupt, a new curated Textile Study Group exhibition which opened at the Stroud International Textile Festival in May 2017 and is touring to four museums in the U.K. during 2018.
